What is Composition, and Why is it so Important in Drawing?

"...composition is an arrangement of elements that makes us see them as a whole. Every artwork has some composition. You either create it consciously or by accident, but you can't create a drawing without it.  In a more practical sense, composition is the relation between the elements of the picture. And this relation, not the elements, is the first thing we notice."

Tootsie Roll and I are not "artists" by trade, but when our little buddy Stella visited us @vintage54collective over the weekend and handed us this gift we first saw all the amazing elements of the artwork as its whole beautiful drawing - nature.  We then noticed Stella hiding in the tree along with the squirrel and me hiding in the grass along with the colorful flowers; playing a game of hide-n-seek with Tootsie Roll.  Tootsie and I simply love this creation and to share it with others we left it on display at our www.vintage54collective.net booth.  The next day a customer came in and wanted to buy Stella's artwork. The vendor working of course replied, "It's not for sale, just for enjoyment."  To which the customer replied, "Could you put me in touch with the child who did this drawing, I have a cat I would love to have her draw a picture of?"  Not sure where this might go for a little buddy Stella, but what a great tribute to her love of life.  Tootsie Roll and I can only image the amazing future awaiting our little buddy Stella!
