No matter what the scenario, it is always good to be prepared. Being knowledgable about different scenarios in life allows us to respond calmly instead of reacting in panic mode. Our blog on this Tootsie Roll Tuesday hopes to prepare our readers for a choking scenario involving our pets.
Like most scarey things in life, the chances of your dog or cat choking are not great. We also know that dwelling on thoughts of life threatening things happening only brings those thoughts to life. Positive thoughts bring like life circumstances...so let's live in the positive. But let's also be prepared to respond calmly.

                Tootsie Roll & Ida Mae
You are now most likely thinking, "What prompted this blog topic?". Well, let me tell you. While at my parents the other week Tootsie Roll and Ida Mae were served a yummy dinner of kibble and roast beef. Although Tootsie Roll will give me a nice sit and stay until released by me to eat; when she started eating this yummy feast...well it wasn't eating it was devouring. Luckily I was watching her because all the sudden she just flopped over on her side and I knew immediately that she had food stuck in her throat and was not getting enough air. I put her back on her feet and started to shake her and that luckily did the trick. Although she wanted to finish the bowl of food I knew she needed a break and I needed to collect myself. I put the food bowl up and we took a little walk.

Our pets looks to use for support and guidance; they trust us completely. On that little walk I realized that it was my responsibility to make sure another choking incident not happen to Tootsie Roll and to be even better prepared if one did happen to another pet. Tootsie Roll and I would like to share a link on the Heimlich maneuver for cats and dogs and hope you take a few minutes to read through it and then store it in your memory banks. We also hope you never have to use the procedure.
We will look at other ways to be responsible pet parents in next weeks blog so check back next Tuesday .
