A Memorial Day...

explanation....Tootsie Roll has answered this question before, but it is one worth answering again...Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?  It's not just in memory of...and you fill in the blank; although that is an okay addition to the day.  The day dates back to Civil War times and was once celebrated on May 5th when people decorated the graves of those who died fighting for our country.

Then..."Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that it should be observed on May 30, possibly about the right time so that flowers would be blooming all over the country."  A pretty nice gesture if Tootsie Roll does say so herself!

Memorial Day was made an official holiday in 1971 and an act passed in 2000 suggests that people stop wherever they are at 3:00 pm on May 30 to remember those who have died in service.
