the answers aren't in the back." -Charlie Brown
And that is why we have friends, family, doctors, and God. They can all help us find answers and make choices when something bad happens. And I know I am through the worst of the bad. The two surgeries are behind me, I am tumor free, and I am healing and feeling better every day!
Thanks to a work place that truly cares for the whole person I am on my fifth and last week away from school and teaching; which I have really missed. I will use this week to regulate my sleeping patterns, build up my stamina, and focus on my overall health. I plan to finish this semester strong!
My husband's work has also been so incredibly supportive with allowing him the flexibility to work from home and to be creative with the hours he counts toward work; this has allowed him to feel productive at work and supportive of me, the perfect balance!
What lies ahead? Chemotherapy and radiation therapy as precautionary measures will define my afternoon schedule for a six week period. The radiation therapy will target the original sight of the cancer, the left side of my neck and throat. It is likely that the four lymph nodes that were removed in the neck dissection surgery "leaked" cancer cells before their removal, and even though the original PET Scan showed no other tumors in my body, the chemotherapy will ensure that any of those cells that may have leaked out from the lymph nodes are destroyed. All of this will strengthen me and answer my prayer for a body, heart, mind, and soul that are clean, clear, and free of this disease.
As this journey continues somethings will define my daily schedule. Other things will thankfully be destroyed. But I, I will be strengthened by it all. I will be a better person. Thanks Be To God!
